Sula Wines is a wine producer based in Nashik, 180 kilometers northeast of Mumbai. Rajeev Samant founded Sula Vineyards in 1999, Sula was Nashik’s first winery and paved the way for the emergence of India’s Wine Capital. Today, Sula is India’s leading wine company, spearheading the charge of Indian wine across the world. It is by far the largest producer of wines in India and was named after Samant's mother – 'Sulabha'. Samant steadily grew the company over the next few years by introducing newer grape varieties and expanding the company's offerings. Over the last few decades, the Nashik region has transformed and is often referred to as "India’s Napa Valley". Sula was the first in India to release wines made from Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc and, today, it has increased the vineyards to hold plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Shiraz, Merlot, Riesling, and Viognier. The Rasa Shiraz is the prestige cuvée red wine made at Sula and is only produced in the best years. It is made from estate vineyards at Nashik and is a complex wine with the ability to age.

The Sula Wine Collection

Let’s look at the different styles of Sula wines:

The Rasa collection offers a trio of artisanal red wines, including Sula’s signature red wine, the Rasa Syrah. This wine is typically 95% Syrah with 5% Vioginer aged 12-14 months in French oak.

The Source:

Winemaking for ‘The Source’ collection focuses on vineyard sites. The Source Grenache Rosé is 100% Grenache and is modeled after the Southern Rhône Rosés of France.

Dindori Reserve:

The wines in the Dindori collection come from grapes grown in the picturesque Dindori subdistrict in Nashik: Dindori Reserve Viognier: 100% Viognier with textured intensity
Dindori Reserve Chardonnay: 100% Chardonnay with a creamy texture
Dindori Reserve Shiraz: 85% Shiraz, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon

Sula partnered with the Sanctuary Nature Foundation, a non-profit organization, to support conservationists across India. These wines are about them

Kadu Chenin Blanc: 100% Chenin Blanc
